I and my girlfriend came here on Saturday 7/13/24 for dinner around 6:20 PM. Only a few names on the waiting list. Got seated after 7, 8 min waiting. Makoto has pretty much all at once good seafoods we didn't see them last year: snow crabs, blue crab and crawfish at the same time. Snow crab is really good (not salty) (5 star), fried Salted blue crabs are tasty and crispy (4 star), louisana style crawfish with shrimp, squid, corn cob, potatoes are decent (3 star). 5 star for all 3 premium seafood served at one time. The clams with black bean sauce are very tasty. Baked Oyters are big and good (4 star). Salted shrimp are delicious as always (5 star). Fried battered squid are a bit chewy (2 star). Mushroom stir fried is really delicious 5 star. Fried rice and chow mein are 3 star. Sashimi plates are almost empty all the time. Staff should refill them more frequently 2 star for sushi chefs. Salmon sashimi is fresh and good 4 star. Tuna, Salmon sushi are decent 3 star. Sushi rolls are pretty good 3 star. Desserts are 5 star with excellent chocolate and strawberry ice cream cups. We didn't try vanilla cup. Honey Dew, Cantaloupe and navel orange are sweet. Staff clean up the dirty dishes are very good 5 star. I think we will come back in 2 weeks.

Food, service & ambience all amazing!! We are only passing through but we will definitely come back next time we are in Vancouver!

Makoto Japanese Buffet is a haven for sushi enthusiasts, offering a diverse culinary adventure at a reasonable price of $21.99 for Saturday dinner. Arriving at 8 pm, the restaurant buzzes with activity, yet parking remains hassle-free. Satisfying cravings, the buffet boasts an impressive selection of sushi rolls and two varieties of sashimi, alongside a tempting Mongolian grill. While the hot dishes hold their own, it's the sushi that steals the show. Amidst the bustling atmosphere, the only drawback arises from occasional lapses in server attentiveness, particularly in refilling water glasses. Nevertheless, Makoto Japanese Buffet redeems itself with a delightful assortment of desserts, providing a sweet conclusion to the meal. For sushi aficionados seeking a fulfilling dining experience without breaking the bank, Makoto Japanese Buffet is a must-visit destination.

As far as Asian buffets go, this one is about as solid as they come. Wandered in for Easter dinner and was quickly shown a seat. The hot bar selection was pretty good, with oysters in black bean sauce, crawfish and fried crab claws among the expected noodle and sweet and sour offerings. The sushi selection was satisfactory as well, with various specialty rolls offered along with the standard nigiri choices--salmon, tuna, yellow tail and shrimp. These seemed to be pre-made and were quickly replenished. The dessert selection was a bit narrow, but I was so full it didn't matter. Prices were very reasonable for a holiday--less than $25-and service was friendly and efficient. Recommended if you're near PDX and hungry. (3.75 stars).

When it comes to buffets its either a hit or miss. We had heard that this place gets busy so we got there what we thought was when they opened but they had already been open for 30 minutes prior. We didn't wait long but there was already a line. Quite a big selection, of sushi, seafood, a Mongolian grill & other Asian selections. Was the fish the freshest, no but it was still enjoyable. Loved the Mongolian grill it reminded me of a place I liked to go to in oregon. Clams were just ok, there was no sauce or marinade just tasted like straight class. I liked that they offered ice cream & popsicles if you weren't Into cakes or other desserts. The popsicle was a great end to the meal. As we were leaving though my dad was bummed that they were just starting to bring out other food like crab & shrimp cocktail. Now we know. Buffet was a reasonable price for the selection. Definitely want to come back for dinner as I heard there are more selections.
